Rampur emerging as trade, cultural hub: Governor inaugurates four-day Lavi Fair
Rampur is emerging as a hub of commerce and cultural activities, said Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla after inaugurating the four-day International Lavi Fair here in Shimla district today. He added that the Lavi Fair had maintained its identity as a trade fair for centuries and was now emerging as a significant cultural event of the state.
The Governor said that the fair reflected the cultural heritage of the state and was an integral part of people’s lives. Each year, people gathered in Rampur to participate in trade activities while strengthening traditions, unity and harmony, he added.
The Governor said that the fair holds historical significance, being well-known for both trade and rich traditions. Cultural groups from various states showcased their diverse cultures on one platform, embodying the spirit of unity in diversity. “The fair serves as a confluence of cultures, ideas, and trade activities,” he added.
He said, “The Lavi Fair not only strengthens the local economy but also fosters social bonds and promotes the state’s cultural heritage.”
Later, the Governor offered prayers at Mata Bhimakali Temple for the prosperity and well-being of the people of the state. He lauded the efforts of the organisers of the fair. He said that woollen garments, dry fruits and other traditional crafts were displayed at the fair, providing artisans, weavers and farmers a golden opportunity to showcase and sell their products. Through this fair, various cultures were merging, creating a unique cultural identity similar to the Kumbh fair, he added.
Earlier, the Governor inaugurated the exhibitions of various departments and other organisations. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, who is also Chairman of the International Lavi Fair Organising Committee, welcomed the Governor and the Lady Governor.
The event also featured vibrant performances by various cultural troupes. District Council president Chandra Prabha Negi and Municipal Council president Muskan Negi were present on the occasion.
