The Kandaghat police today arrested two more students — Kartik (19) of Ghumarwin and Saksham (22) of Theog — of Waknaghat-based Bahra University in the ragging case, taking the number of those arrested to five.

Saksham is studying law, while Kartik is a computer science student. Despite being a law student, it is surprising that Saksham was unaware of the legal ramifications of the crime that he indulged in along with the other three students.

The duo has already been expelled from the university on the recommendations of the university’s anti-ragging committee on September 11.

They were the main culprits of the September 7 incident, where a first year MBA student was thrashed and forced to consume liquor inside a hostel room on the campus. Refusal to drink peeved the seniors, who beat him mercilessly with a belt, besides kicking him. The victim was also locked inside the washroom for some time and confined to the seniors’ room for the night. Solan SP Gaurav Singh said the duo will be produced before a court today.

On the complaint of the victim, a case was registered against five students for causing harm, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly and rioting, along with Section 3 of the HP Educational Institution (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009, on Sunday at Kandaghat.
