Products made by jail inmates draw crowds
Around 60 inmates from across the state showcased various products made by them during a three-day exhibition at the Rotary Club building in the state’s capital.
During the exhibition, products such as furniture, bakery products and decoration items were showcased, which impressed visitors.
Inmates were also present during the exhibition and showcased their products.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Sanjiv Ranjan Ojha.
Speaking to mediapersons, the DG said, “Inmates are also a part of society. In jail, they are provided with the opportunity to learn new skills. With these skills they can earn a livelihood after they are released from the prison.”
He also appealed to both tourists and locals to visit the exhibition to take a look at the products that have been made by the inmates.
Prem, one of the inmates who has been jailed for the past 10 years under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in Kaithu Jail, said, during his time in jail, he has learnt various skills such as welding and carpentry.
A similar exhibition will also be held at Gaiety Theatre in February next year.
