Kullu, October 4
The paperwork for the double-laning of the Kullu-Naggar-Manali left bank road has commenced on the directions of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The PWD has submitted the documents to the NHAI.
During his tour to Kullu in June, the minister had announced to double-lane the road on the request by CM Jai Ram Thakur and Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur.
KK Sharma, Superintending Engineer (SE), PWD, Kullu, said a survey of the road was carried out by a team of NHAI and PWD officials. The feasibility and scope of land acquisition were deliberated during the survey.
Based on the survey, the PWD had submitted papers of land available with the department to the NHAI.
The SE said now the NHAI would acquire the land. The land available with the PWD would be transferred to the NHAI and the remaining land be acquired. The permissions for land acquisition would be taken by the NHAI.
The journey on the 44-km left bank road will be more smooth after the double-laning of the road. The road connects many villages and its widening will benefit a large number of agriculturists and residents. The road also becomes an alternative route in case the Kullu-Manali national highway is blocked.
