Nine villages of tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti will be included in the Prime Minister’s tribal advanced village campaign in Himachal Pradesh. This move is aimed to focus on strengthening socio-economic conditions of tribal communities.

A meeting chaired by Rahul Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Lahaul-Spiti, was held at Kelong today to prepare for the Prime Minister’s Tribal Advanced Village Campaign. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kaja Rahul Jain joined the meeting virtually from Spiti subdivision.

During the meeting, the DC announced that the campaign would be officially launched on October 2 at the district-level in Kelong, coinciding with the national launch in Jharkhand. He said the campaign aims to include 63,000 tribal-majority villages across 549 districts and 2,740 development blocks in India from 2024 to 2029.

The nine villages from Lahaul-Spiti selected for the initiative include Shakoli, Udaipur, Tindi, Trilokinath, and Kelong from the Lahaul region, along with Kaza Khas, Kaza Soma, Narango and Tabo from the Spiti region.

“The primary objective of the campaign is to improve the social and economic conditions of the tribal people by enhancing access to essential services such as health, education, roads, electricity and water while bridging gaps in livelihood resources and social infrastructure,” the DC said. He said eligible families would benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) for permanent housing, access to tap water under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat cards, all-weather connectivity and improved infrastructure for health and nutrition.
