Preparations on for Gandhi Jayanti celebrations in Nahan

A meeting was held today at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Gaurav Mahajan to discuss the arrangements for the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2. The event will commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

Mahajan shared that the celebrations would commence at 6.30 and on the premises of the Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Nahan. He said Sumit Khimta, Deputy Commissioner, Sirmaur, along with other officials and dignitaries, would pay floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, the DC would also administer a pledge to students and the public. Following the pledge ceremony, students would deliver brief speeches reflecting on the life and values of Mahatma Gandhi. A five-minute presentation had been planned to highlight Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and truth, he said.

Besides, a prabhat pheri (morning procession) would be held featuring students and officials. The procession would be flagged off by the DC from the Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) campus. The prabhat pheri would pass through key locations, including Delhi Gate, Hindu Ashram, Bada Chowk, Gunnu Ghat, Mall Road and Yashwant Chowk, before concluding at the school.

As part of the celebrations, fruits and blankets would be distributed among leprosy patients on the Medical College campus in Nahan. Besides, fruits would be provided to all patients admitted to the hospital. The Nahan Municipal Council has been directed to disinfect the prabhat pheri route with medicinal sprays while the Jal Shakti Department would sprinkle bleaching powder along the path.
