To commemorate its Foundation Day, the Mandi Municipal Corporation organised a pre-Diwali event at the Town Hall chaired by Mayor Virender Bhatt on Monday. The Mayor reflected on the corporation’s golden journey, highlighting the achievements and challenges faced over the past four years.

The Mayor extended Diwali greetings to the residents and emphasised the corporation’s commitment to improve urban infrastructure and services despite staff shortage. He noted that around Rs 3.5 crore were allocated for the maintenance of natural water sources. Over 5,000 streetlights were installed in the town with an investment of around Rs 4 crore in new areas, he said. He mentioned that around Rs 50 lakh was spent on upgrading old electrical infrastructure across various wards.

“The corporation is developing three new parks at a cost of approximately Rs 1.5 crore and has allocated Rs 30 lakh for parking facilities in Ward 1. A health and wellness centre is under construction in Bheuli, costing around Rs 70 lakh,” he remarked.

The Mayor also discussed various development projects, including road improvement, soil conservation and maintenance of historical sites, with a total expenditure of Rs 20 crore and an additional Rs 7 crore allocated for upcoming projects. To support the elderly, around Rs 45 lakh was spent on putting benches across the town, with plans for an additional Rs 37 lakh for new installations, he said.

“Five new libraries have been opened, costing about Rs. 50 lakh, with facilities for 150 children and free internet access,” he added.

The Mayor praised the corporation’s efforts to connect citizens with government schemes, establishing over 100 self-help groups under the National Urban Livelihood Mission and providing loans totaling Rs 1.5 crore to promote self-employment.

“To maintain cleanliness, the corporation has employed over 200 sanitation workers and spends around Rs 40 lakh monthly on waste management. New high-tech vehicles have been introduced for efficient waste collection,” he said.

The event was attended by all corporation council members, Commissioner HS Rana, engineers, and municipal staff.
