Portmore, St Edward’s actors shine at Hindi drama event

Government Model Girls Senior Secondary School, Portmore, won the best adaptation for “Milte Julte Chehre” play, while St Edward’s won the best performance award for “Dharmraj Ke Darbar Main” play in the Children Theatre Festival, Inter-School Hindi Drama Competition, held at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla.

Saysha, a student of the GSSS, Portmore, won the best actress award for portraying the character of Sauji Ram in “Milte Julte Chehre”, while Kush, a student of Swaran Public School, Shimla, won the best actor award for portraying Leo, a dog in “Ek Sujhav Chotta Sa” play.

The three-day inter-school Hindi drama competition that was organised by the Keekli Charitable Trust featured performances by 15 schools. The competition concluded today with the performances of “Dharm ke Darbar Main” play that was performed by St Edward’s School, “Khet Mein Kanak” performed by students of Nagarjuna Senior Arch School, Kandrour, and “Rin” performed by Blue Bell School, Dhalli.

The event was graced by chief guest Sohela Kapoor, alongside the core team members Srinivas Joshi, Amala Rai and Jawahar Kaul. The judges were Dr Manohar Sharma, Daksh Sharma and Bhupinder Sharma.

Sohela Kapoor praised the children’s efforts and encouraged them to participate in more events. She commended the team members of Keekali for organising such an event, focused on nurturing and promoting arts at the grassroots level with professional artistes.

Additionally, Kapoor spoke on her upcoming book, “Coco and the Little Boat”, written by Swiss author Marie Lou von Weill and illustrated by Indian artist Rakesh Dayal.

The day concluded with a ceremony to thank all g winners, followed by the distribution of awards and mementos to everyone involved in the programme.
