During a three-day training programme on tourism policy and tourism in Himachal Pradesh, organised for field functionary police personnel from all districts, as many as 25 police officials were trained on understanding behaviour of tourists and expectations they have from the local authorities and police.

This initiative, based on the recommendations of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, was conducted under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Atul Verma. The programme aimed at training police officials in traffic enforcement, regulation of motor vehicle rules, and assisting domestic and international tourists.

The training was inaugurated by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Tourism and Railways (TTR), Gurudev Charan Sharma, on Thursday at the TTR Headquarters, Shimla.

During the programme, critical topics related to tourist safety and security were discussed. Resource persons — Dr Priti Kawar Nagpal (Assistant Professor HPU), Dr Mukul Dhimari (Institute of Hotel Management, Kufri) and Mahendra Singh Seth (Shimla Hotel Association president) — provided insights on the challenges and issues surrounding tourism in Himachal Pradesh.

Gurudev Charan Sharma and Additional SP (TTR) Narvir Rathour led discussions on the laws governing tourism activities in the state. Statistics on tourist arrivals and trends were also discussed to apprise the participants of the tourism sector.

Certificates were awarded to the participants on the concluding day.
