Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur said today that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to make India clean and green, the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is spoiling the efforts in the state by imposing ‘toilet tax’. Anurag Thakur was addressing public meetings at Kuthera, Sammu and Gasota in the district today. He said that ‘toilet tax’ imposed by the government of Himachal Pradesh had not only lowered the reputation of the state but had also exposed the poor governance of the Congress government in the state. He said that when the issue was highlighted by local and national media, Sukhu withdraw the notification.

Anurag said the state government had slashed free electricity scheme, imposed water tax and stopped Himcare and Sahara schemes started for poor and needy. He said the Congress governments had failed to protect the interests of the state. He added that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave special status to the state and Congress withdrew the status. Modi again gave the special status to the state.

Anurag Thakur listed various development projects started by the Modi government in Himachal Pradesh. He said that the government in the state would have collapsed if the Centre had not supported it as the state is reeling under drastic financial mismanagement. He added that the Centre government had given over Rs 28,000 crore under various heads for the development of the state.
