Plastic waste spoiling Shimla’s beauty

Plastic bottles and wrappers of edible items can be found dumped on the slopes of the Chhota Shimla-Oakover road, which is a matter of concern. Not only is this hazardous for the environment, it also mars the scenic beauty of Shimla in the eyes of tourists. The authorities concerned should take appropriate action against those who litter in the open.

8 years on, Sainj College building not constructed

The Sainj College building, being constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore, has not been completed even after over eight years. In 2016, then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had announced Sainj College with a budget of Rs 4.5 crore. It took a lot of time to transfer the land and get technical approval. Two years ago, the government released an additional budget of Rs 8 crore for the building. The foundation of the building is being prepared by levelling the sloping hill of 38 bighas near Sainj Mela Ground. As many as 280 students are studying in the college, which is presently being run at the building of Government Senior Secondary School, Sainj. Due to the lack of facilities, most of the students of the valley are forced to go to Kullu, Panarsa or Banjar colleges.
