Plant 2 after 1 dangerous tree is cut: Shimla MC to residents
Shimla, July 24
With an aim to protect environment, the Shimla Municipal Corporation has directed people, who have been urging the corporation to axe dangerous and dried-up trees, to plant two trees after an old one is cut.
Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan said planting two saplings will be compulsory for the people who have requested for axing of the dangerous and dried-up trees. “The people who have made such a request will also have to take care of the new saplings that they will plant,” he added. He said it was important to plant more trees for the conservation of environment. The Municipal Corporation has been receiving hundreds of complaints regarding the dangerous and dried-up trees that pose a threat to residential areas.
At present, the Tree Authority Committee that was constituted by the government to ensure that only dangerous trees are axed is visiting every ward of the town. The five-member committee, headed by the Mayor, inspects the areas and trees regarding which they have received complaints.
Till now, the committee has identified 300 dangerous trees. A list of the trees has been sent to the sub-committee, which will forward it to the state government in order to get the permission for axing the dangerous trees.
