Panchkula youth lynched, 1 gravely injured in Baddi
Solan, August 26
A Panchkula youth was lynched by a group of youth at Baddi, near the truck union parking, on the Baddi-Nalagarh national highway, while another one was grievously injured after a dispute erupted on payment of drugs last evening. The duo was rushed to the civil hospital, where Rahul Roy, a resident of Panchkula’s Sector-12, was declared brought dead by the doctors, while his companion Laxmi, who was grievously injured, was referred to PGI-Chandigarh after preliminary treatment.
Baddi DSP Khajana Ram said, “Another accomplice fled the scene according to the CCTV footage accessed by the police. Their antecedents were being verified.”
According to preliminary enquiry, a dispute arose between two groups over payment of drugs that were secured from a local youth, which led to heated exchanges and it turned violent. When videos of the incident went viral, the police reached the spot last evening.
The police identified two local youth involved in the incident and as per the probe, majority of the assailants, who had dispersed in two groups, appeared to be outsiders.
Baddi SP Ilma Afroz said a case under section 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered and further probe was underway. A team of experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory visited the crime spot for collecting evidence this morning, the SP added.
As per the victim’s statement, payment for procuring marijuana from the local youth led to the dispute, but the police probe hints towards their involvement in some other nefarious activity.
