The Palampur Municipal Corporation organised a function to highlight the importance of waste management and sanitation on Friday. The event featured a variety of activities, showcasing the talent and creativity of local students and recognising the invaluable contributions of sanitation workers. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail was the chief guest of the event while Palampur Mayor Gopal Naag presided over it.

The highlights of the event included a “waste to wealth” competition, which encouraged schoolchildren to transform waste materials into innovative and useful products. Young minds demonstrated their ingenuity and problem-solving skills by creating unique items from discarded materials. The winning entries were awarded prizes and recognised for their contribution to a cleaner and greener Palampur.

Clean & green city

The Municipal Corporation is committed to making Palampur a clean and green city. The corporation is also working towards making it a garbage-free city by 2025. It is collecting garbage from door to door every day and over 100 workers are engaged in this task. —Ashish Sharma, Municipal Commissioner

The function also included a colourful display of cultural activities by students from local schools and colleges. Dance performances, musical acts, and skits showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region while promoting environmental awareness.

The civic body felicitated sanitation workers, who play a crucial role in keeping Palampur clean and healthy.

The event was a resounding success, bringing together students, community members and sanitation workers to celebrate environmental consciousness and recognise the efforts being made to improve Palampur’’s waste management infrastructure.

Local MLA Ashish Butail, while addressing the gathering, emphasised the importance of community participation in waste management and sanitation. He urged local residents to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.
