Over Rs 100 crore damage was caused to Bathu Bathri industrial area in Una district on Sunday due to a flash flood in local rivulet. Sources told The Tribune that heavy rain throughout the night the local rivulet in Bathu Bathri area of Una the local rivulet witness a flash flood.

Five persons living in a slum near the rivulet were killed after being trapped in the flash flood. Water entered the industrial units located along the rivulet and caused massive damage. The sources here said that maximum damage was caused in Vardhman industries, Preetika Auto industries, Uphar cable and Escon industry.

Joint director industries, Anshul Dhiman who reached the affected industrial area said that the flash flood in Bathu Bathri rivulet caused massive damage to public and private infrastructure in the area. A damage of about Rs 100 crore has been caused in the Bathu Bathri industrial area. We are trying to help the affected industrial areas, he said.

Anshul Dhiman added that there were reportedly five deaths in the flash flood. Two unidentified bodies have been retrieved. The deceased were the labourers living in slum area along the Bathu Bathri rivulet, he said.

Rakesh Kaushal, president of the Tahliwal, Bathu Bathri industrial association said that massive damage has been caused as water inundated many industrial units in the area after flash flood in local rivulet. We had been demanding that the Bathu Bathri rivulet that passes through the industrial area should be channelised.
