Shimla District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap today passed orders that mandatory migrant labourers will have to get identification and verification done at the respective police stations.

According to the orders, no person visiting Shimla district will be allowed to engage in any kind of self-employment, non-formal trade, services or search for employment without informing the concerned police station in-charge. Violators and their employers will be penalised under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, added Kashyap.

He said the order would come into force with immediate effect and remain in force for the next two months. Punitive action would be taken against migrant workers and their employers who violate the rules, he added.

Kashyap passed these orders here today as an emergency measure in view of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023. Under this, no employer, contractor and trader will engage any migrant labourer coming to Shimla district in small/non-formal job or service or contract labour until such migrant labourers go to the SHO in the concerned police station and submit their details along with a passport size photo.
