The District Hamirpur Open Cross-Country Championship was held at the synthetic track here yesterday.

The district team for the state-level Cross-Country Championship, to be held in Una on December 15, was also selected during the event.

District association general secretary Sandeep Dadwal said winners and first runners up would participate in each age category in the state-level championship.

In the U-16 (women’s) category, Shagun won in 2-km race; in the U-18 category, Suhani stood first and Kashish second; in the U-20 category, Manisha was first and Ankita second; and in the 10-km open race, Pareeksha was the only qualifier.

In the U-16 (men’s) category, Naresh Chauhan was first and Prakshit second; in the U-18 category, Atul bagged the first prize and Ayush the second; in the U-20 category, Aditya stood first and Rajat second; while in the 10-km open category, Sanjeev clinched the top spot and Rohit bagged the second prize.

Kehar Singh Patyal, a Sport Authority of India coach, awarded prizes to the winners of the championship.

He said all players should do their best in the state games and try to bag the chance to participate in the national championship.
