Dal Lake Development Committee will be formed for the beautification of the historic Dal Lake, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania said while inaugurating a cultural programme on the occasion of ‘Paavan Nahon’ (sacred bath) on Radha Ashtami on Wednesday. He said that the committee would include local people so that appropriate steps could be taken for the beautification and conservation of this lake.

A plan will be prepared to promote pilgrimage activities in this region, covering Dal Lake and Durveshwar Temple, so that the influx of tourists could increase employment opportunities for the local people.

He further said that necessary instructions have been given to the officers of the Forest Department and Rural Development Department to start eco-tourism activities. Pathania said that a sum of Rs 357 lakh will be spent on the Barnet-Ghera road, Rs 185 lakh on road construction from Naddi to Guna Mata Temple, while an estimated amount of Rs 75 lakh would be spent on constructing a road from Naddi to Sunset Point.

He said that effective steps were being taken for building the Dhauladhar Expressway from McLeodganj to Dalhousie for the promotion of tourism.

On the holy festival of Radha Ashtami, thousands of people, mostly women, took part in the holy dip. Temple Trust Chairman Sanjeev Jaswal, SDM Sanjeev Bhot, District Language Officer Amit Guleri, Tehsildar Giriraj and various other officials were present.
