On Constitution Day, Pro-VC highlights contributions of Mahatma, Ambedkar
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Prof Rajendra Verma, here today said the Constitution represents the soul of the nation. He said this during a ceremony organised to celebrate Constitution Day at the university in which he served as the chief guest.
On the occasion, he said the Constitution provides provisions to handle all situations, including emergencies. Beside this, he highlighted the significant contributions of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr BR Ambedkar in its creation. Prof Verma also launched a book, titled “The Truth About Untouchability: Gandhi and Ambedkar”, by Prof Vivekanand Tiwari. The book review was conducted by Sheetal Thakur.
The session was initiated by Ankit Kumar, while University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) students Sanidhya Pathak and Mokshita delivered an insightful speech on Dr Ambedkar’s contribution to the Indian Constitution.
While presiding over the event, Dean of Studies Prof BK Shivram said the process of Constitution-making began as early as 1946, before India’s independence. He also mentioned that the Bhakti movement saints were the first to advocate for social harmony.
