A no-confidence motion moved by four councillors against the Manali Municipal Council (MC) president Chaman Kapoor was passed at a meeting held on Wednesday. Four of the seven councillors of the MC attended the meeting, even as Kapoor skipped it. The process to elect new president will be completed within a month.

MC vice president Manoj Larje and three other councillors, including Chandra, Kalpana Thakur and Sunita, had brought the no-confidence motion against the president on September 9. On the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, Manali SDM Raman Kumar Sharma called a meeting to discuss the motion. Besides Chaman Kapoor, councillors Naveen Tanwar and Lalita were absent from the meeting.

The Manali SDM said the information had been conveyed to the higher-ups and further proceedings would be carried out as per rules and directions. “To complete the quorum, one-fourth of the members, ie five councillors, must be present in the first meeting for the election of the president. In case the quorum is not complete, another meeting will be held after three days, during which the president will be elected on the basis of simple majority,” he added.
