Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today said there was no infiltration by China from the state border. His remarks came days after Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi had said that drones had been spotted on the China border in Kinnaur district.

Shukla said, “China has now understood that it cannot take even an inch of Indian land.” He was speaking to reporters on the side lines of an event organised by the Panchayati Raj Department at the Raj Bhawan here.

Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts share a 240-km border with China, which is traversed by nine high-altitude mountain passes.

Asked about the Revenue Minister’s statement that drones had been spotted on the China border in Kinnaur district and that they were likely being used for surveillance and espionage purposes, the Governor said, “I have visited the border areas of the state and met soldiers. There is no infiltration by China from the border of Himachal Pradesh.”

Negi, who is also MLA from Kinnaur, had on October 12 said that multiple drones frequently flying near the border area had been spotted in the past week and several people had informed him about such sightings. He had said that public representatives should visit the border areas to boost the morale of the soldiers.
