The Revenue, Horticulture and Tribal Development Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, presided over the closing ceremony of the district-level under-14 sports competition held at Government Senior Secondary School, Katgaon, in Kinnaur. A total of 546 students from 48 government and private schools of the district participated in the competition.

Negi emphasised the importance of students’ physical and mental fitness for their holistic development and stressed the need to integrate sports with academics.

Negi highlighted that the state government was actively engaging students in sports activities and providing training to those who excel in sports. He also mentioned that the government is raising awareness among youth about the benefits of sports to keep them away from drug addiction.

He assured that neglected sections of students in remote areas were being provided with educational facilities at their doorstep and the state’s interests were being strongly advocated at the Centre. Additionally, he promised to expedite the recruitment of 6,000 pre-nursery teachers.

In the sports competition, Chandika Government Senior Secondary School, Kothi, won the Governor’s Trophy, Government Senior Secondary School, Katgaon, was declared the overall winner and Government Senior Secondary School, Nigulsari, secured the first position in discipline.

In volleyball, Government Upper Primary School, Bari, secured the first position, Government Senior Secondary School, Tangling, stood second and Government Senior Secondary School, Chitkul, the third. In Kabaddi, Government Middle School, Kafnu, won the first position and Government Upper Primary School, Panvi, bagged the second position.

In basketball, Government Upper Primary School, Sholtu; Government Senior Secondary School, Katgaon; and Government Senior Secondary School, Barang; secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. In kho-kho, Government Upper Primary School, Kanghos, secured the first place, Government Senior Secondary School, Murang, stood second and Government Upper Primary School, Sungra, was third. Negi honoured the winners with mementos and certificates.
