Solan, July 16
The 96th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was celebrated today in New Delhi. The two-day event was inaugurated by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the NASC complex in Delhi.
‘Technology Day’ was celebrated alongside ICAR Foundation Day. The event featured exhibits from various ICAR institutes and two universities, including Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, which was invited to display its technologies at the event.
UHF showcased a variety of products — including juices, jams, herbal tea, gulal and pasta. The university also displayed its natural farming products and items from five natural farming-based farmer producer companies, which receive technical support and guidance from UHF.
The exhibition, which spanned two days, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Union Agriculture Minister; Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh; Union Ministers of State George Kurian, SP Singh Baghel, Ramnath Thakur and Bhagirath Choudhary, and ICAR Director General Dr Himanshu Pathak. These dignitaries, along with others, visited the university stall and appreciated the products and technologies developed by the university, and its natural farming initiatives.
University Vice-Chancellor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Dean of Students Welfare Dr KK Raina, and progressive farmers Shailender Sharma and Ravi participated in the event. Over 2,000 students from various schools, along with scientists from several institutes, visited the university’s stall and learned about the university’s technologies and natural farming initiatives.
