Nalagarh ex-SHO held for thrashing informant, wife
The CID arrested Kuldeep Sharma, a former Nalagarh SHO, in a case of thrashing an informant and his wife, at Dharamsala today after he surrendered.
Sharma had approached the Supreme Court for securing anticipatory bail on September 13 but was not granted relief. He was later produced before the Nalagarh court, which remanded him in three days of police custody, said DIG, South Range, DK Chawdhary. He is the second police official to be arrested in the case. Earlier, woman Head Constable Chanderkiran was arrested after the apex court did not grant her relief.
Six police personnel, including Lakhbeer, DSP (Leave Reserve) at Baddi, Sub-Inspector Ashok Rana, constable Sunil and ASI Kalyan, who is posted with Shimla police, are accused in the case. All of them are missing from duty and are evading arrest, said police sources. Chawdhary said they would arrest the remaining accused soon.
The Himachal High Court had rejected their anticipatory bail applications in August. A case was registered against them at Nalagarh police station on December 27, 2023, on the basis of a medical report and the orders of a Nalagarh court. They are accused of torturing the couple using the third degree method during remand, causing a serious injury in the ear to the man. The case was later transferred to the CID.
