The Mother and Child Hospital in Tanda medical college, built at a cost of Rs 40 crore, has not been put to use for the past two years. The construction of the building was started during the term of the previous BJP government in 2017 and completed during the stint of the present Congress government in 2022.

NOC from Fire Dept awaited

  • Fire Dept is yet to issue an NOC for the building built at a cost of ~40 crore
  • No ramps in building, consultancy agencies being blaimed for faulty design
  • A ~4 crore estimate sent to the CPWD for the construction of ramps
  • Tanda medical college receives more than 3,000 patients in the OPD every day

The principal of Tanda medical college, Dr Milap Sharma, says that the Mother and Child Hospital building is not being used as the Fire Department has not yet given an NOC for it in the absence of ramps. Besides, an overhead water tank for fire safety has not been constructed in the building.

Sources says that consultancy companies that were hired for designing the building are being blamed for shortcomings in the buildings.

The Principal says that an estimate of about Rs 4 crore has been sent to the CPWD for the construction of ramps. “We hope that ramps will be constructed in the hospital soon and the building will be put to use at the earliest,” he adds.

The CPWD had constructed the building with grants provided by the Union Government. The present government had recently named the building after former minister and senior Congress leader from Kangra, GS Bali.
