BJP leaders were trying to divert attention of people on worthless issues instead of talking on facts, said Prem Kaushal, chief spokesperson of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee here today.

Speaking on the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Himachal was facing financial problems, Kaushal said that PM tried to threaten electors in J&K and Haryana that if BJP could not win in the respective states, their funds too would be blocked.

He said that it was the duty of the union government to support any state that was in trouble but PM’s attitude remained indifferent towards Himachal Pradesh. Kaushal said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had handled the situation efficiently and provided salaries and pensions to employees and pensioners on the promised dates. He alleged that the Centre had delayed state funds and demanded that Union Government to release the funds at the earliest.

On the issue of mosques and protest rallies in the state, Prem Kaushal said that state government had handled the issue well in consultation with the stakeholders. He said that it was appreciable that the leaders of the minority community had come forward to maintain calm in the state while some people tried to gain political benefit of the issue which was unfortunate.

He said that the BJP leadership was frustrated because Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had started raising serious issues. He said that BJP leaders were trying to malign Rahul’s image. He said that the NDA allies too had approved and appreciated issues raised by Rahul and this had added fuel to the agony of BJP leaders. On MP Anurag Thakur questioning the caste of Rahul Gandhi, he said that acts and conduct of BJP leaders had exposed the poor mindset of BJP leaders.
