Nahan: Mobile tower to be installed at 12K-foot Churdhar peak
Nahan, July 21
To boost connectivity, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to instal a mobile tower at Churdhar peak, which is situated at 11,965 ft in Sirmaur district.
Discussions are under way between the BSNL management and Churdhar Temple Committee to finalise the formalities for the project.
The mobile connectivity is often poor at Churdhar peak, causing inconvenience to visitors from across Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states, especially during the peak pilgrimage months of May and June.
Much needed in emergency situations
Without proper mobile network, it becomes difficult for the visitors to communicate or seek help in case they lose their way. In the past, such situations had led to safety issues. As the pathway to Churdhar temple winds through a dense forest, the lack of mobile signal poses considerable challenges to the visitors. As per Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap, the BSNL General Manager has confirmed the plan to instal the mobile tower at Churdhar peak soon. Besides, the BSNL has proposed to lay fiber optic cables on the Paonta Sahib-Shillai-Hatkoti route to Shimla and from Solan to Chandigarh via Parwanoo-Kandaghat route, as the existing cables have been damaged during the construction of the four-lane highway.
The proposals will be take up with the Central Government to ensure improved connectivity for consumers.
