Minister lays foundation stone for Rs 3.06 crore administrative building at Karsog

Education Minister Rohit Thakur today inaugurated the ‘youth festival Group 2 music event’ at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) at Government College, Karsog in Mandi district.

During the event, he also laid the foundation stone for a new administrative building, estimated to cost Rs 3.06 crore.

Emphasising the importance of education for holistic development of students, the Minister stated that the state government was committed to restoring the historical glory of education. He added that cultural events like this festival played a crucial role in educational institutions.

The Minister criticised the previous government’s handling of the education system and announced efforts to fill thousands of teaching positions to improve the quality of education. He mentioned that 6,200 NTT teacher positions and 234 special educator positions were currently open for recruitment.

The Minister also discussed initiatives to enhance the quality of education, including opportunities for teachers and outstanding students to travel abroad. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to allocating approximately 20 per cent of the state budget to education and outlined investments in such projects like Rs 10 lakh for a basketball field and Rs 20,000 for cultural programmes at the college.

Thakur also promised Rs 40 lakh for the construction of additional classrooms at the Government Senior Secondary School at Bakharot.

Local residents welcomed the Minister with traditional music. Members of the Pradesh Congress Committee and local leaders also addressed the event.
