Education Minister Rohit Thakur here today inaugurated several developmental projects worth Rs 4 crore during his visit to the Shurachali area under Jubbal sub-division of Shimla district. The minister inaugurated three water supply scheme projects, including Khatal Sauravin Lift Irrigation Scheme, constructed at a cost of Rs 95 lakh in Saraswati Nagar and Chamshu Masina Lift Irrigation Scheme constructed after spending an amount of Rs 65 lakh.

On the occasion, the minister said residents of Rawin and Thana panchayats and the surrounding areas would immensely benefit by these projects. He said these projects were a big achievement and benefit agriculture and horticulture sectors.

Later, the minister visited Rohtan, a remote village, where he inaugurated the Lift Drinking Water Scheme for the settlements in Shurachali area, constructed at a cost of Rs 2.35 crore.

“In the first phase of this project, residents of Bholad, Thana and Ravin panchayats, along with Jhagtan and Mandal gram panchayats, will benefit from the scheme,” he said.

The minister said this project would provide relief from the shortage of drinking water during summers. He said ample drinking water would be available for the people. He said another water supply scheme would be constructed at a cost of Rs 38 crore. He said a large water tank would to be constructed and connected to the Pabbar river under the scheme. This project would benefit 28 panchayats of the Jubbal and Kotkhai area. The construction of the water tank would be completed May 2025, he added.

The minister also attended the closing ceremony of Late Shri Parmanand Panatu Memorial Volleyball Tournament Season 3, which was organised by Nav Yuvak Mandal Dhadi. While addressing the gathering at the tournament, he said, “Sports play the most important role in personality development and character building of a person. In the present time, when our youth are getting hooked to drugs, the need for sports has increased more than ever. The government support for sports competitions will continue in the future as well.”
