Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday said meritorious students from the state would be sent abroad for exposure visits to broaden their horizons.

Speaking at the annual prize distribution ceremony of Government Senior Secondary School, Bharwain, in the Chintpurni Assembly segment, he said 200 school teachers had been sent abroad, and such an initiative would also be launched for students from the coming academic session. Thakur said, during the last two years, the state government had taken major steps towards enhancing the quality of education.

He added that 15,000 vacant posts in the department were being filled.

He said 2,800 posts of TGT, JPT and C&V teachers would be filled through the Staff Selection Board.

The Congress-led government had filled up 120 vacant posts of principal and 484 posts of assistant professor in the college cadre, Thakur added.

The minister announced that a sum of Rs 25 lakh would be allocated for completing the ongoing work of the school stadium, noting that Rs 47 lakh had already been spent on the project. He also announced the provision of Rs 5 lakhs for the construction of toilets on the campus of the school, besides Rs 10 lakhs for repairs of the old school building.

He directed the district administration to provide funds for setting up a gym at the school. At the event, Thakur gave away academic awards, besides prizes to the winners of various sports and cultural events. Chintpurni MLA Sudarshan Singh Babloo and Himachal Pradesh Advocate General Anoop Rattan were among those present at the event.
