Medical college campus construction to be completed by March 2026: CM

Postgraduate classes will also commence at the college: Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone of the auditorium of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College on the new campus in Jol Sapper in Nadaun Assembly constituency, near here, today. The auditorium would be constructed at a cost of Rs 37 crore.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Principal’s residence on the campus. He inspected the ongoing construction work of the medical college and issued necessary directives to the administration. He said the construction of the medical college campus would be completed by March 2026.

He stated that this medical college was sanctioned by the UPA-II government on March 4, 2014, after his request to the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad with an allocation of Rs 180 crore for this project. The present state government contributed Rs 240 crore. He stated that the new campus would significantly enhance healthcare services by providing world-class facilities, state-of-the-art medical equipment and skilled doctors and paramedical staff.

The Chief Minister said postgraduate classes would also commence at the college.

The Chief Minister said a state-of-the-art cancer hospital equipped with world-class technology would be established. The foundation stone for this project would be laid once the FCA clearance was obtained.

In response to a question during media interaction, he said Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur was issuing baseless statements. He said that Himachal Pradesh was part of India’s federal structure. The Central government collects taxes from the people of Himachal Pradesh and the funding from the Centre was legitimate right of the state. “This funding is not a favour from the union government but a right of the people of Himachal Pradesh,” he said.

Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Raghubir Singh Bali, MLAs Suresh Kumar and Ranjit Singh Rana, Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Sunil Sharma, Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Limited chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Congress leaders Dr Pushpinder Verma, Subhash Dhatwalia and Rajiv Rana and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
