MC seeks funds from govt to provide medical facilities to senior citizens
In order to provide medical facilities to senior citizens of the town, the Municipal Corporation, Shimla, has sought budget from the state government. Mayor Surender Chauhan has written a letter to Secretary (Health) in this regard.
The Mayor said steps were being taken to provide medical facilities to senior citizens in the town at their doorsteps as there was a need to provide more medical facilities to around 20,000 senior citizens who live in the state capital. He said due to old age and the accompanying diseases, there are thousands of senior citizens living across the town who face huge inconveniences while visiting the nearby medical facilities. Therefore, the Corporation has planned to provide medical facilities to the senior citizens at their doorstep.
“If the corporation gets additional budget, senior citizens could get better medical facilities in the town which will be a huge relief to them,” he added. The Mayor further said a proposal would soon be prepared regarding the medical facilities and services to be provided to the senior citizens.
Earlier, this year, the Corporation had started the drive to provide medical test facilities to senior citizens under which free blood samples along with various other samples were being collected from their homes for conducting medical tests. Reports of the tests are also provided to senior citizens in the comfort of their homes. The Corporation has collaborated with an Non Government Organization Helpage India. For availing this service, the senior citizens are required to contact on the phone after which a team of officials of the corporation and the NGO visit the person’s house and collects the samples.
