Manali-Leh highway blocked after massive landslide

The Manali-Leh highway was blocked for traffic movement on Sunday morning after a massive landslide occurred at Chumbak Mod between Manali and Rohtang pass.

The traffic movement on both sides remained interrupted on the highway, leaving many vehicles stranded.

Big boulders blanketed the entire road and it would take time before the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) manages to clear the road.

According to official sources, no untoward incident was reported in the region and movement of vehicles was considerably less compared to previous years, because of the ongoing lockdown to check the spread of COVID-19 outbreak.

The BRO has moved its machinery towards the spot to clear the road.

According to a BRO official, the road will be restored in the day’s time.
