The Kullu Dasehra festival, which commenced on October 13, has attracted a significant number of tourists to the district. The hotel occupancy in Kullu town is nearly 100 per cent. The week-long celebrations at Kullu, known for its vibrant culture and festivities, has drawn visitors from across the country and beyond.

Though Kullu town is buzzing with activities, nearby Manali town is witnessing a lean tourist season. Manali hoteliers had anticipated a surge in the tourist influx and improved room occupancy during the festival. However, the occupancy in Manali hotels has barely reached 50 per cent, leaving them disappointed.

Anup Thakur, president of the Kullu-Manali Prayatan Vikas Mandal, expressed optimism despite the mixed results. “While Kullu is agog with tourists, we hope that the coming days will bring more visitors to Manali as well. The pleasant weather is ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region,” he said. He added that the hospitality sector was fully prepared to accommodate an expected increase in tourist numbers.

Gajender Thakur, president of the Federation of Himachal Hotels and Restaurants, said the natural scenery and improved weather conditions attract travellers who seek a picturesque getaway. “We are hopeful that as the festival season progresses, more tourists will come to Manali to experience the festivities and the scenic landscape,” he added.
