Kullu: Man, SUV swept away in Bhaga river
Kullu, July 24
One person is feared to have been washed away along with his Thar SUV after it plunged into the Bhaga river near BRO camp at Stingri village of Lahaul and Spiti district last night.
A resident of Yangla village was travelling alone in the vehicle when fell into the river. Officials of the District Disaster Management Authority said a search and rescue operation was underway.
Lahaul and Spiti Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary said, “Six teams with 50 members, including seven police officers, 10 personnel of BRO, seven ITBP officers, four personnel from the fire department and seven local volunteers, besides a drone surveillance team, were engaged in the search operation.”
He added that a rescue team from Adventure Tour Operator Association (ATOA), Kullu-Manali, which includes professional divers and a rafting team, has also been called to the location. He said a requisition had also been sent to the State Disaster Response Force team.
