Man drowns in Mandi, dies

A middle-aged man died today after slipping into a water stream, while going from his home towards his agricultural land at Jood village in Mandi district.

The victim, Karm Singh (64), a native of Jood village under Thunag tehsil, was crossing the stream when he lost his balance and fell into the water. His body was found two kilometres downstream near the old tehsil building.

Residents spotted his body among stones in the water stream and promptly retrieved it, took it to the Primary Health Centre in Thunag, where he was declared dead. The local patwari, kanungo, panchayat pradhan and other officials identified the deceased.

The local administration has provided a preliminary financial aid of Rs 25,000 to his wife, while the police have registered a case. — TNS
