Main objective of Civil Defence is to make people aware of natural disasters, says minister
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh today said the main objective of the Himachal Civil Defence Department was to make people aware of natural and human disasters.
This was stated by the minister at the inter-battalion band competition of Home Guard Corps held under the “Nishkam Seva-Surakshit Himachal” programme here today. The Home Guards Department organised the programme ahead of the 62nd Foundation Day of Home Guard and Civil Defence at the historic Ridge ground.
While congratulating contesting bands of all the 12 battalions of the state, he said the Home Guards Department was known for its selfless service and civil defence. He said the department was formed as a voluntary organisation to provide security to citizens in any untoward situation and to cooperate with the Army, Navy, Air Force and other security agencies of the country for the purpose.
The minister said employees and volunteers of Home Guards and Civil Defence were working towards creating awareness among people to reduce increasing natural and human disasters.
The minister also inaugurated an exhibition related to disaster management equipment. Director General Satwant Atwal and Deputy Director General AK Parashar were present on the occasion.
