Legal literacy camp in Chamba’s Mehla
A legal awareness and literacy camp focusing on the rights and welfare of women was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Tuesday at Mehla.
The event was part of the Vidhaan Se Samadhaan programme, aimed at providing legal solutions and promoting schemes beneficial for women. The camp was presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Sandeep Sihag.
In his address, Sihag provided detailed information about the legal services available to the public under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
He covered key laws such as the Domestic Violence Act, Right to Information Act, Consumer Protection Act and the Right to Education Act. He also talked about women’s fundamental rights, responsibilities and shared information about women's helplines.
Senior advocate DP Malhotra delivered an informative session on issues related to dowry, harassment, domestic violence and eve-teasing.
He talked about NALSA’s toll-free helpline 15100 and the joint initiatives by NALSA and the National Commission for Women under the Vidhaan Se Samadhaan programme. Kajal, an advocate, discussed various legal aspects, while Block Planning Officer Thakur Singh provided departmental information to the women present at the camp. The event was attended by National Rural Livelihood Mission Head Sevika Rekha Thakur, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and women from various women’s groups. The camp aimed to enhance legal literacy among women and empower them with knowledge of their rights and the available legal remedies.
