Una, August 28

The government veterinary polyclinic in Lalari village of the Haroli Assembly segment is the first and the only veterinary health institution in the state where modern diagnostic equipment enables early detection of diseases and probable body malfunctions in animals for the veterinarians to plan their prevention or cure.

The veterinary health institution uses modern electronic diagnostic testing to measure electrical activity produced by muscles and nerves in the animal’s body and it is used to determine if they have an injury related to nerve or muscle function. The technique includes two different types of tests, namely the electromyography and nerve conduction studies.

Dr Manoj Sharma, who is posted at the institution, said the machinery also includes electrocardiography machine to diagnose heart problems besides ultrasound equipment to check malfunctions in the abdominal region. He said the initial electrograph machinery was installed in 2017 at the hospital, while electrocardiography and ultrasound machinery were introduced later.

The institution is functional in the high altitude areas of the Haroli segment, called as the ‘Beat Area’, where dairy farming is a primary source of income for farmers. Since the hospital is situated in close proximity with the Punjab border, farmers from the adjoining state too make use of the facility.

In addition, the veterinarian said the technique has also been helpful in detecting and prescribing 24,867 medical ailments and 24,080 pathological tests. He informed that a new X-ray machine has also been proposed for the institution, which will provide accurate diagnosis for bone fractures and chest infections.

Along with Dr Manoj Sharma, Dr Anup Ruthwal, Dr Neha Chauhan and Dr Monika Thakur are the specialists providing services at the institution in the disciplines of surgery, medicine, gynaecology and pathology.
