The Lahaul Sports Carnival is set to take place from November 6 to 10 in the picturesque Billing village of Lahaul and Spiti. The aim to organise the event is to promote sports and healthy lifestyle in the region. Under the theme ‘Be fit to save the earth’, the event will feature a variety of competitions designed to engage local youth and foster a spirit of community.

Tailored for schoolchildren

Keeping our youth fit is crucial for their future. The carnival will host several competitions, including, football, volleyball and archery competitions. Additionally, there will be kabaddi and cycling competitions tailored for schoolchildren, complete with attractive prizes to encourage participation. — Kunga Bodh, organiser

Organisers Kunga Bodh, a District Council member, and Sonam Jangpo, pradhan of the Keylong Gram Panchayat, expressed their gratitude to the residents of Billing village for allowing their fields to serve as the carnival’s playground. They said the initiative not only highlighted the importance of sports in youth development but also showcased community support in making this event a success.

Bodh emphasised the positive impact of sports on both physical and mental health, noting that participation could serve as a deterrent to drug addiction. “Keeping our youth fit is crucial for their future, and this carnival aims to promote that message,” he added.

Preparations for the event are in full swing, with an increasing number of community members expressing their support. Organisers encourage further involvement from the public to bolster this initiative, which they believe will have a lasting positive impact on the youth and the environment.
