Lahaul-Spiti MLA reviews preparedness for winter
Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing development works in Lahaul and Spiti district during a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Keylong on Friday.
She emphasised the need for increased awareness of government employment schemes and urged departments to organise more awareness camps. The MLA reviewed preparations made by various departments to ensure the continuity of essential services during the harsh winter months.
She asked officials concerned to ensure that all departments are fully prepared to tackle the challenges posed by the season. She highlighted the immense potential for winter sports in Lahaul, noting that organising such events could provide significant benefits to youngsters of the area.
She instructed the district administration and the Tourism Department to begin initiatives for the promotion and organisation of winter sports events, which would not only boost tourism potential but also create employment opportunities for the region’s youth.
During the meeting, the MLA inquired about the progress made by various departments — Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Rural Development, Public Works, Jal Shakti, Industry, Health, and Tribal Welfare.
She received updates on the achievements of each department and the budget expenditure to date.
She urged departments to ensure that no funds are left unused, advising them to utilise the budget for public welfare projects in a timely manner. The MLA also directed authorities to explore potential parking solutions in Keylong, considering the increasing number of visitors.
She instructed the departments to expedite the resolution of the pending Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and the Forest Rights Act (FRA) issues to ensure smooth execution of developmental projects.
The MLA further urged all departments to work in close coordination to complete developmental works within a stipulated timeframe. She also emphasised the importance of implementing government schemes in a manner.
With regard to transportation, she advised officials to ensure that HRTC buses continued to operate as long as road conditions allowed, ensuring mobility for area residents. Keylong SDM Rajneesh Sharma, Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manoj Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Sankalp Gautam, DSP Rajkumar and officials from various departments were among those present at the meeting.
