Kullu’s social worker conferred Sant Eshwer Award in New Delhi
In a ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on October 2 the prestigious ‘Sant Eshwer Award’ was conferred on 17 individuals from various fields, including art, literature, environment, health and education, who have made remarkable contributions to society.
Among the awardees was Shruti More Bhardwaj from Kullu, who was recognised for her exceptional work in early intervention in the disability sector, along with pioneering India’s first mobile therapy van. Motivated by her encounter with a disabled girl, facing menstrual and disability challenges, Bhardwaj worked with a local NGO and eventually established the Sanfiya Foundation to help needy children.
The ceremony featured notable attendees, including Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Minister Rijiju talked about the irony of social media influencers overshadowing people who genuinely contributed to society, urging the media to promote positive stories, while CM Yadav acknowledged the unique ethos of service in India.
The Sant Eshwer Foundation, since its inception in 2015, has honoured over 120 individuals and organisations. This year, the foundation distributed cash prizes amounting to Rs 32 lakh . The selection committee comprised RBI Director S Gurumurthy and retired Chief Justice Pramod Kohli.
