Kolkata man dies on trekking trip in Manali
A man from Kolkata died on a trekking trip at Manali in Kullu district today. KD Sharma, DSP, Manali, today said the Mission Hospital in Manali reported that a person had been brought dead at the health facility.
No suspicion of foul play
A preliminary probe suggests that the death was due to adverse effects of high altitude. There is no suspicion of foul play. The body has been kept at the mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. Further action would be taken on the basis of the autopsy report. —KD Sharma, DSP, MANALI
“According to a statement from the wife of the deceased along with 12 others, had arrived in Manali from Kolkata in their private vehicle on September 7. On September 10, the group began a trek from Jowra to Hamta Pass. After setting up camp at Chhika, the deceased complained of severe abdominal pain and chest discomfort. Despite receiving initial treatment and advice from fellow trekkers to seek medical help, his condition worsened. He was rushed to the Manali Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival,” the DSP said.
“A preliminary investigation suggests that the death was due to adverse effects of high altitude and environmental changes. There is no suspicion of foul play. The body has been kept at the mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. Further action would be taken on the basis of the autopsy report,” the DSP asserted.
