Kangra bags 1st prize for training volunteers in disaster managment
Kangra district has bagged the first prize by the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority for implementing the training scheme for volunteers. More than 9,500 volunteers have been trained for disaster management in Kangra district.
Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said the administration was fully alert regarding disaster management in Kangra district and the team of District Disaster Management Authority was working in an excellent manner due to which the efforts of Kangra district had been appreciated at the state level.

Deputy Commissioner said that committees had been formed at the village level for prior preparation for disaster management at the local level and to reduce the risk of disasters. Panchayati Raj institutions, community-based organisations and rural community are being regularly trained to deal with disaster management so that effective steps could be taken for relief and rehabilitation in case of disaster.
He said that as per the Disaster Management Act 2005 and State Policy on Disaster Management 2011, it is mandatory to form village level disaster management committees. In this connection, disaster friends are being prepared in every gram panchayat. Masons are being trained for quake-resistant building construction. Along with this, regular mock drills are being done in government offices and schools regarding disaster management.Scientists have warned of a possibility of a big earthquake in the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh in the near future. Kangra district is earthquake sensitive.
