Kangana Ranaut's maiden speech as BJP MP in Lok Sabha; here's what she said
Chandigarh, July 26
Kangana Ranaut–the newly elected MP from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh–gave her first speech in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The Bollywood actor-turned-politician brought attention to the challenges faced by the tribal areas in her constituency.
Ranaut began her speech by thanking the Lok Sabha Speaker for allowing her the opportunity to speak during the crucial hours of Parliament’s monsoon session.
She voiced concerns about the erosion of traditional art forms, including music, attire and culture in the tribal regions of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Bharmour due to modernisation.
She asked the Centre about the measures being taken to preserve the rich tribal heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
Kangana defeated Congress candidate and Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of 74,755 votes.
Kangana Ranaut’s entry into the 2024 Mandi Lok Sabha elections added a twist to the politics of Himachal. Known for her outspoken and controversial nature, she campaigned extensively across the constituency, drawing large crowds and receiving strong support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the other top BJP leaders.
