Justice Thakur advises Shimla students to avoid drugs, overuse of electronic devices

Justice Sureshwar Thakur of the Punjab and Haryana High Court inaugurated the St Edward’s Model United Nations Conference here today. The event is being held in collaboration with The Tribune and 150 students from eight reputed schools participated in it. The inaugural ceremony was marked by prayers and songs.

Justice Thakur spoke at length about justice and how it could be delivered to all. “We all have to enhance our sense of justice to ensure justice for all,” he said. He advised the students to stay away from the vice of drug abuse and avoid the overuse of electronic devices.

The ceremony was also attended by the Alumni Chair and vice-chairpersons of four committees. Teachers from different schools interacted with the chief guest.

Following the opening ceremony, students took part in debates on various topics picked up for the event. During the two-day event, the students will debate on several topics, including ensuring fairness and legality in conducting competitive examinations for college admissions; addressing the impact of rising immigration rates on Indo-Canadian citizenship; promoting international collaboration on AI standards, policies and research to guarantee equitable access, benefits and peer influence etc.
