Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan today assumed the charge of office of the Chief Justice (Acting) consequent upon the retirement of Chief Justice Rajiv Shakdher on October 18.

A notification had been issued on October 16 in this regard by the Union Ministry of Law & Justice whereby Chauhan was appointed as Chief Justice (Acting). This is the second time when Justice Chauhan took over as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court prior to this he was remained as Acting CJ from April, 20, 2023 to May 29, 2023.

Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan belongs to Ruhru tehsil of Shimla district. He had obtained a Degree in Law from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh in the year 1989. He practised in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in all branches of law.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on February, 23, 2014 and thereafter he was appointed as permanent Judge of the High Court on November 30, 2014.

Justice Chauhan has delivered a number of landmark judgments and till date 69,805 number of cases have been disposed of by him. Justice Chauhan is Executive Chairman of the State Legal Service Authority and is in Board of the Governing Council the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. He also remained president of HP Judicial Academy.

Being a Chairperson of the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice Chauhan has done tremendous work with keen interest for the welfare and interest of the children of bal/balika ashrams.
