Justice Rajiv Shakdher was today sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court at an official ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, here today.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena read out the Warrant of Appointment issued by the President of India. Justice Shakdher’s appointment comes following transfer of Chief Justice MS Ramchandra Rao to Jharkhand. His wife Deepa, daughter, family members, friends, lawyers and judges of the Delhi High Court attended the oath ceremony.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher was born on October 19, 1962. He holds a B.Com (Hons), CA and LLB degree. He was enrolled as an advocate on November 19, 1987 and has since practised extensively in civil, constitutional, taxation and corporate laws. His legal expertise spans cases before the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.

Justice Shakdher was appointed an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 11, 2008. He later became a permanent judge on October 17, 2011. He served at the Madras High Court after being transferred there on April 11, 2016 and was subsequently transferred back to the Delhi High Court on January15, 2018.

Lady Governor Janaki Shukla, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh Town and Country Panning and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Judges of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Court, state Congress president Pratibha Singh, state BJP president Rajiv Bindal, Advocate General Anup Kumar Rattan, senior officers of the state government, high court and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
