J&K man held with 468-gm ‘chitta’ in Shimla district
A Jammu and Kashmir resident has been arrested with 468.38 gram of ‘chitta’ (heroin), having a market value of around Rs 25 lakh, from near Khadapathar in Shimla district, the police said here today.
The accused has been identified as Mudasir Ahmed Mochi, a resident of Bhatpura village in Kupwara district.
According to the police, it received a tip-off yesterday that one person was on his way to deliver the contraband to a drug peddler in Rohru. A team led by Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharth Sharma set up a check post at Khadapathar and stopped the suspect for checking around 8 am on Thursday.
During the checking, the police seized the contraband from his possession and detained the suspect immediately.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act had been registered against the accused.
He said further investigation was under way to establish the arrested suspect’s links to the alleged kingpin, Shahi Mahatma.
“Shahi Mahatma is the kingpin of an inter-state drug racket active in the Rohru area. Five FIRs under the NDPS Act have been registered against nine persons who were part of the drug racket,” the SP said.
He added that the police had arrested 356 persons and registered 180 cases under the NDPS Act this year.
