The Bilaspur district administration is making strides to establish the district as a key tourist destination by developing an island in Gobind Sagar Lake near Jeoripattan for various recreational activities. Inspired by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the administration plans to introduce facilities like fishing, camping, party areas and adventure sports on the island, offering visitors an exciting and unique getaway. Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadik and SDM Abhishek Garg recently visited the site to evaluate its potential for tourism.

The identified island, situated in the expansive Gobind Sagar Lake with widths ranging from two to 5 km is surrounded by thick forests and remains above water level for approximately nine months each year. This isolation and natural beauty make it ideal for tourism, with possibilities for an artificial tribal village that could give visitors an immersive cultural experience.

DC Sadik expressed optimism about the project, noting that the island’s scenic beauty would attract tourists from far and wide. He highlighted plans for hosting cultural and food festivals on the island, featuring local folk music, dance, and traditional cuisine to promote regional culture. This initiative is also intended to offer pre-wedding shoot locations and unique settings for lunch and dinner parties, enhancing the area’s appeal as a social venue.

Furthermore, the administration envisions fishing and angling activities for visitors seeking peaceful, nature-centric experiences. Tenting and glamping facilities will allow tourists to connect with nature in comfort, making it an attractive destination for adventure and leisure.

According to Sadik, developing the island in Gobind Sagar Lake will not only boost tourism in the Jeoripattan area but also strengthen Bilaspur’s reputation as a notable tourist destination in the region. With such diverse offerings, the project aims to provide a vibrant and culturally enriching experience for visitors while benefiting the local community.
